Would you mind telling us when you saw this? I wouldn’t expect to see it in January.

Am I missing something? I can’t see any other bracket fungi, only what looks like a Peltigera species.

          Very helpful. Thanks both.

Interrupting the experts again! My first thought was Psilocybe coprophila. Why would you rule that out?

I’m here to learn. Thanks Andreas.

I’m now reluctant to get involved in such a learned discussion, but the thread picture seems to me to show a smoother surface than Chris’s Phellinus picture.

Looks like Phellinus pomaceus, not uncommon on old apple trees. Parasitic, but there’s no point cutting off the fruit body. The organism within the tree remains unaffected. Just enjoy the new fruit the tree’s giving!

                    How about Leucoagaricus badhamii?

I get the impression the site is moving to app based usage. I’m just surprised it’s happening without any announcement leaking out into general discussion.

The middle one might be Datriona mollis. THe Xylaria looks ok to me.

It may be me but the stipe does look rather pruinose. It would be useful to know what the pileipellis structure is. I don’t think it’s G. confluens as it is not fasciculate, and the gills are not crowded.

I think you will find it under Lyophyllum Adam

There may be pruinose and pruinose, but when I see G. confluens I expect to see the stipe almost tormentose, not like a one day growth beard. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

No confidence in this, but I agree it looks like Gymnopus. Have you considered G. erythropus? Not like it usually looks, but they never are…

Off topic I know, but most of us would prefer middle age to youth, however wise we are(?).

Can’t have both. Which would you prefer?
