    Hello there,

I’ve been trying to figure out the name of this fungi but with no success. It has a really smooth, round top and is white with a brown centre. It smells quite mushroomy and has white gills but it bruises a rust-orange colour. I found it growing in some mouldy looking patches at the edges of my tomato grow bags in the polytunnel.

I hope the photos are good enough.

Thanks in advance for your help.

      How about Leucoagaricus badhamii?

      #40474

That looks like a pretty good shot. It definitely has the red/brown bruising.

If it is the blushing dapperling, are they quite rare in Northern Ireland? I can’t find that much info about it online.

Not recorded from NI, but a handful of records from the Republic.

It’s quite uncommon, so it might be good to contact the local recorder of the NI fungus group

        Have you considered Chlorophyllum?

        #40478

Do any of the Chlorophyllum ever have white spore prints and bruise the same deep colour? This one has a bright white print, also the rusty orange bruising colour is very distinctive.

Yes, this is badhamii. The difference with Chlorophyllum is that the colour on damaging is ‘instantly’ bright orange-red which then turns black (as shown in the images).

It seems to be increasing around here with 8 records in the last 9 years and only one before then.
