Lovely shot of the ‘Flames’ Mike – it would seem the dry spell followed by this wet spell might have helped it as appearing in other places too! May 11, 2021 at 10:51 am #34153Chris Johnson wrote:

Only found because heavy rain in an exposed site forced me to walk back home via an unplanned route. This is separated from what would have been calledTrichopeziza mollissima(= Dasyscyphus mollissimus) by microscopic characters. Not formally named yet – provisionally
Trichopeziza limonipilosained. Trichopeziza limonipilosa 02a.jpg
A great find, expertly determined, Chris. – And a superb macro shot to boot!

Mike.

October 2, 2021 at 7:32 pm #34158Stacked images of the spermatia and aecia of the rust Gymnosporangium sabinae; look out for it on pear trees – as you can see it’s pretty obvious at this time of year. Chris

If I recall correctly,
Gymnosporangium sabinaeis allegedly not all that common in the north-west of England. But it appears every year on a pear tree in my sister’s garden.

Mike.

I was up in Northampton this week at a funeral and noticed it in a garden in West Hunsbury but it’s not on my neighbour’s pear tree in South Devon
