The cap was very slimy and sticky and the spores did strike me as being very warty (but I don’t see spores that often anyway!).

P.S. Do you have any idea what group it is? That might help me help to identify it!
Have a look here:
I do think mildews are much simpler, as long as you have a good photo or an idea of the host. With rusts you always need to get your handlens out, it seems.
Thanks for the ID’s, I really wasn’t expecting them to be so straightforward!!!
Great images on AscoFrance!!

I’m very sorry for not replying quicker, I’ve been very busy sorting things out after my trip to Wales.
I’m writing this on my iPad(so you might spot some typos), but as soon as I can get onto my computer I’ll zoom into my photo to see if I can spot a cluster of black pseudothecia on the spots. Unfortunately I was silly enough to skip photographing the underside, but next time I am certain
Thanks for the tip with the scanner – I never would have thought!!!

The good old fashioned Collins guide won’t do then?

It’s the SP40, which is so new that Brunel hasn’t even put it on the website yet! 4x – 100x oil and trinocular. LED not halogen.
We just tried out a slide – Gourd polen – and it looks great!
We went to see the MD of Brunel personally on our way to Wales and he was very helpful, we talked with him for 2 hours. We also gained lots of freebies: slides; coverslips; extra immersion oil; pipettes; prepared slides and those calibrating slide thingies.
Hi Jimmy, good to see you have posted this on iSpot. As I have said to iSpot Admin I view this site as complementary to iSpot. 1 (only) poster had complained to iSpot about my comments suggesting people try this Forum and my comments were marked ‘inappropriate’ and deleted!
