Thanks very much. Thank you! We’ve had very heavy rain recently, and I couldn’t detect any odour on those. The Mycena (maybe!) on the old stump had a generic mushroom odour.
Thank you – I had thought of Pluteus aurantiorugosus, but it’s listed as uncommon or rare, which always adds to the doubt. Hopefully someone more competent than I will agree (or correct!)
The specimen seemed quite fresh, and did not show any reddening when cut (watched for about 5 minutes). Thanks for the suggestions – I know these are tricky.
I’m not too good at describing smells, but I think “mealy” is about right. Slightly musty as well, perhaps – but that might be due to age. The colours are, as far as memory serves, pretty true to life, It was a dull day, so I slightly increased the contrast, but the images are not otherwise “retouched,” apart from cropping/snipping.
Ah. Many thanks – never seen it in a ring like this before! Thanks for the proposed identification. I discover (from a comment on iSpot) that I used the wrong technical term for the stipe patterning. I did not see any discolouration: but it had been detached, either by mowing or by someone’s boot.
I also didn’t see a Poplar, but there is quite a variety of trees in the wood.
Thanks for the identification and the advice. -
