Hi all, been a while, busy with Hoverflies……the attached is puzzling me so any pointer appreciated. I think on old rotting Hawthorn, Saddleworth VC63 2/1/2021. Pores are a bit mixed , some round, plus angular and slightly mazy, Smell is weird – sweetish and mealy with sort of petrol overtones when fresh. Size around 2” across. Hard when dry. Hasnt dropped spores. Help….. 😳

      Hi Ken,

Good to make contact with you again!

The only thing that springs to mind would be something like Phlebia tremellosa – which can have that sort of shape and colouration, and in its early stages, its pore surface can also look very similar to what your example has.

If it isn’t that – then I have no clue as to what it might be.

      Regards,

      Mike.

      Hi Mike,

great to talk again, hope all is good with you. Jelly Rot was my first thought, but it doesnt seem right – maybe I am over thinking it. Maybe as its such a pristine specimen, I’ll do some more research and thinking. It doesnt fit anything else in Laessoe and Petersen. We cant both have that initial thought and be wrong can we? Oh yes…….thanks a lot my friend.
