Well not being able to go out it seems the fungi has come to me. These are growning around my mother-in-laws tongue in the sitting room. They are brown capped with gills and smell mushroomy. I had a job taking photo of gills so pulled on the stem which just pulled out leaving a hole. It does have a ring, presumably where the cap was attached to begin with. Hope I have told you everything you need to know about my indoor fungi.
please can I have an ID:)
April 27, 2020 at 2:37 pm #42956Hi Nelly Well done for coming up with this puzzle, which has me totally stumped! The woodchip specialist Redlead roundhead,
Leratiomyces ceres, does not have a membranous ring and would show veil remnants on the cap margin, absent on your fungus. It reminds me a bit of the genus Pholiotina, but I can’t think of one with anything like that lovely red cap colour. I would assume that it is an alien species and if he sees it Paul Cannon may have a suggestion, as all sorts of things have turned up at Kew Gardens. A spore print would be handy. I shall now sit back and watch the suggestions

Best wishes
Chris
May 1, 2020 at 10:15 am #42957Every feature screams Leratiomyces ceres apart from that ring. You wouldn’t have an annulus/veil/cortina emanating from the gill attachment. I think this is just a bit of flesh ripped from the cap at the apex. May 1, 2020 at 7:12 pm #42958Logic_AL wrote:

Welcome to the forum.
That’s a well deduced arguement which I’m in accord with. It does shout
Leratiomyces ceres. Regards, Chris
May 1, 2020 at 8:57 pm #42959Thanks Chris. I’m sure the site is being inundated with new members since the lockdown. I am quite enjoying this new armchair spotting alternative. Its nice to see what people are finding elsewhere so I’m sure you’ll see more of me. Be sure to reel me in if I get a little too gung-ho with my suggestions of course 🤘 May 2, 2020 at 3:33 pm #42960Thank you, I did not reaise I would start a debate . So Leratiomyces ceres it is then. I do agree with you, by the way I took a spore print which is very fine pale brown each liine of the gill starts off very pale brown/red getting darker towards the edge. (difficult to discribe the brown some might say leaning to red) You were right about it not having a ring, it was just a bit of the cap as it opened.
As always I can count on you thank you
