Found today in forest. Brittany France. Growing out of/around an old, cut stump of possibly Beech or Pine – which are the main trees there – although there is also some Yew and Larch.

Dense clusters of different sized, gilled fungi.

    Pinkish-beige.

    Faint, sweetish mushroom smell.

Caps with soft ‘spines’ Size ranges from roughly 5mm to 5cm diameter

Gills very crowded, slightly paler than the caps and running down strongly ridged stems.

No spore print yet – will hopefully have one tomorrow.

Photos are of the whole mass in situ, plus the cluster I have brought back to try and identify.

    Any help appreciated.

Update: the spore colour is white.

I would have suggested Pleurotus cornucopiae but those spine-like processes on the cap are very odd :?

    Thanks Chris.

The soft spine/fins on the caps really confused me too.
