Sort of a trumpet – I have no idea what it is.

Acidic soil under mixed deciduous – one pic shows a newly emergent one and the other pic is of a fruiting body that was covered by leaves, right next to the first, I think they are the same. Any ideas/suggestions welcome!

    Gomphus has been mentioned……..

    Cheers

Not much good at non-Agararics, but check out Guepina helvelloides.

Thanks a lot Roy, that looks a good possibility – I would never have thought of that……….I’ll go back and see if it has developed further.

I hope it is, that would be a first for here………….so maybe one for Chris Yeates VC63 records!

    Cheers

      Hi Ken,

To me, this looks like something that one occasionally finds with random “atypical” deformations.

I’ve seen G.helvelloides (generally associated with conifer) several times, including tiny, just emerging fruitbodies.

From the looks of yours, I don’t think it will be that.

It will be interesting to see what transpires.

      Regards,

      Mike.

I have been back today – it hasn’t changed much.

I agree with you Mike, and Roy was right to be cautious, its not Salmon salad in shape or with Pinus. Mainly Birch and Acer there.

It appears also to have some distant slightly decurrent gills, a bit Chanterelle-ish. But equally could be deformed something…………

Grateful for any other thoughts on my puzzle.

I will revisit again to check developments in a few days.

      Cheers

      Ken

The second image seems to show gills; I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a deformed Laccacia laccata!

That is something I thought of initially, but it was so unusual to be so ‘wrong’ – and in the light of nothing else, I think that will be the case, many thanks Roy.

I will check on it again, just to be sure….

      Cheers, Ken.
