Hello. My immediate thought is Bitter Beech Bolete (Caloboletus calopus). Found in mixed woodland – beech, oak and conifers. Acid soil. Central Brittany. Thanks for any help, contradiction or confirmation. Sorry that the images are sideways!

For boletes, we need to see the pores and ideally see them sliced in half lengthways.

What colour were the pores? Was there any discolouration on bruising?

      Hello,

the first two are Boletus calopus, the fotos 3 and 4 are Boletus erythropus.

      best regards,

      Andreas

Thank you both. They were not all in the same place – but in the same locality. Next time I will take an example and show the pores and slice them!

Andreas is confident and experienced enough to ID your boletes from the top shots. I’m not :D

        Nice specimens there (and photos)

        Hello,

this time yes, but Adam has of course right that it is often indispensable to see the pore colour and the coulor change when cut in half. And one should cut a whole fruitbody in halfs and not only cut a slice from the cap ….

        best regards,

        Andreas
