Galerina paludosa? Bog Bell. On a wet moss /sphagnum flush, acidic, here in upland Saddleworth yesterday, stipe has some distinctive marks like velar remains and dusted above that, no spore print, it just dried up, but appears from the gill close up to be ruddy, which would fit. Couldn’t get a smell. Abundant in the sphagnum, none elsewhere.

    Grateful for any thoughts please.

    Cheers

I wouldn’t want to ID a small galerina from a photo, they are tough nuts at the best of times. Maybe you will find someone very familiar with the suggested species.

Hi Leif, yes, I quite agree, its a forlorn hope, but someone may have specific knowledge that might help – I live in hope, but as WC Fields puts it, more than somewhat………………

I used to find that the magic word “Andreas” sometimes helped. :D

    Quite!

Yes Galerina. In Sphagnum, there are probably only about 4 British species of which paludosa is probably the most common and widespread. Other Sphagnum species seem to have no/very little veil on the stipe. So, without additional microscopic data, I would say there is a very good chance that this is G. paludosa.

Thanks a lot Roy, that’s good – I hoped that – at least it confirms my titling of the pic as ‘probably’.

    Cheers
