Hi can you help me identify this beautiful fungus please.

I found it growing in my hazel woods, it was near the edge of the woods about 1.50m from the base of the hazel in light shade.

there were 3 others growing but not close to each other about 50 cm apart.

Hi there, I found this beautiful fungus in the hazel copse at the bottom of my garden in County Cork Ireland.

It was in light shade about 1.5m from the base of a hazel . There were others growing but not next to each other about 50cm away, all single standing.

The top was about 3cm diameter and the stem 1cm at the base, height overall 7cm . It was growing in the leaf litter and was observed in late August. I would be very grateful for some help identifying it.

Hello Hilary. Whilst you’re waiting for someone more knowledgeable than me to come along and confirm this, you might want to look up Laccaria amethystina – Amethyst Deceiver. They are beautiful aren’t they?

Hi there Hilary, and welcome to UK Fungi.

I have merged your two ID requests, as they both relate to the same species.

And welcome too, to Deborah, who is correct in saying that your find is Laccaria amethystina – Amethyst Deceiver.

      Regards,

      Mike.

Its really good to know the name and sorry about the two posts took me some time to work out how to do it.

Its really sparked an interest in fungi so expect more!

      Thanks again

      Hilary
