Hi, I found this beautiful white fungus on the stump of a silver birch, and I’ve no idea of even the genus.

As there was only one fruit body, I just took a thin slice of the cap to get a spore print.

Cap: 6.5 x 6.5cm, convex, white, scaly, flecked with light brown.

    Gills: Decurrent, white.

Stem: 30 x 15-20mm, off-centre, white becoming pinkish brown at base, base covered in short fine hairs.

    Spores: White, inamyloid, sausage-shaped, 10.1-13.2 x 4.3-5.7um.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you look at Pleurotus dryinus.

Thank you very much, MykoGolfer! The gills on the small sample I took have now turned yellow which seems to be another characteristic of this fungus. All the best : )
