Hi all, any ideas on this one which seems agaricus-y. Growing between row of leylandii and hedge, cap c10cm.
I found several of these and they appeared to be just caps sitting on the soil, on pulling it up
I could see that the stipe was mostly buried
Cheers,
Phil

The useful information from the images are the brown, scally cap, stipe without a bulb and flesh which is hardly discolouring.
With around 40 spp. to chose from this narrows it down a bit. It could be narrowed further with more information: what did it smell of; what type of ring was there (descending/hanging or ascending/’boot like’). I can’t tell from the images what the ring was like; of the other specimens present were there any younger ones? – these may well show the type of ring more clearly.
This info. may still not get to one species and microscopy would be needed to confirm any name put forward.

Nice image of the ring. Looked ‘superior’ at first but in cross section could be ‘intermediate’ (terms used in Geoff Kibby’s key). If you still have the specimen, would you say the ring peels upward (hanging/superior), downwards (inferior) or neither (intermediate – doesn’t tear easily up or down)?
At present I would favour
A. bisporus(if you have a microscope, this is the only wild species with 2-spored basidia). If it has 4-spored basidia I might go for subfloccosus. -
