August 1, 2015 at 9:38 pm #35524Top one looks like dear old Megacollybia platyphylla. August 1, 2015 at 10:43 pm #35525Chris Yeates wrote:Hi Adam

I’m sure you’re right about #2. I dug really deep with my knife, with loads of roots interfering. Unlike the one I found the other day where the volva was plain to see, I think I found a trace of decayed volva around one of them, but it was quite broken down.
#4 There is a faint aniseed/fruity smell. The flush is an artifact, it is mostly a pure white with the centre slightly shiny. I was thinking Clitocybe sp.

Megacollybia platyphylla. Thanks
August 2, 2015 at 1:59 pm #35527More on the white ‘Clitocybe’ SporesMy spore print was quite weak, but not white, perhaps a creamy pink?
Spores were 11-14 x 5-6.5µm and negative to Melzers.
PileipellisIs there a photographic guide to pileipellis types? I find the diagrams in FN unhelpful as nothing looks like them. So from descriptions in “How to identify mushrooms to genus III”, I assume this is a trichoderm.
In the key to genus in FN 2012, I get to key D #153 which says “Pileipellis a cutis or a trichoderm with or without an ixocutis, cap tomentose or with radial hyphae (lens). The trouble is, it looks like a trichoderm, but I would say the cap was smooth and without radial hyphae. Can anyone help with this?
