Apologies for so many lichenicolous queries on old specimens from SW Ireland but I’ve only got a few more days before Janet finishes importing Irish records and I’d like to get mine included in the update!

I find these spiky ones horribly difficult but this appears to be Talpapellis beschiana on Cladonia squamules (by-catch on a specimen from Glengarriff Woods, 2009).

No apical proliferation and the conidia were simple and within the range given in LF2, page 456

The identity of the squamules is something else!

Green when collected fading to pale brownish, sorediate, the undersides white and very tomentose, K-, C-, UV- and I’ll check Pd reaction this evening

Looks OK, certainly not Taeniolella cladinicola and I can just make out the annellations on the conidiogenous cells on a few conidiophores.

As for the Cladonia, Cladonia sp, most likely Cladonia cf coniocraea, but not provable.

Thanks Neil, and Cladonia cf coniocraea was my best guess but I tend to run a mile from Cladonia squamules!
