      Any chance of a possible identification for some very small puffballs growing on a stump in mixed deciduous woodland? They were soft in texture and slightly more pinkish-brown in colour than shown in the photo.

        I think Lycoperdon pyriforme is the only puffball that grows on wood.

          actually it isn’t – here is Lycoperdon perlatum two feet above the ground, on a large mossy fallen trunk

          that said, Jenny’s fungus is definitely L. pyriforme
