Further to the recent DOS attack on the site, and following this post regarding registered user’s difficulty in posting: –

      https://www.fungi.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=18500#p18500

This post is made as a test to establish whether any problems encountered.

(Basically copied and pasted some text, and uploaded a couple of images, as below).

This is a wildlife forum, not a cooking one. Please do not ask for the identification of fungi for edibility or narcotic purposes. Any help provided by forum members is on the understanding that fungi are not to be consumed. Any deaths or serious poisonings are the responsibility of the person eating or preparing the fungus for others. EDIT

Upon initially trying to add the images to the draft post, I received “HTTP Error” message.

Upon then trying to upload the the draft post with text only (no images added), I received a message stating that I needed to be logged in, in order to post (When I was already logged in at the time, having just created the draft post).

Upon then re-logging in, and creating the draft post again, I was able to add images in the normal manner, and submit the post (with those images as above).

After successfully uploading the post above, I’ve just Logged out and logged back in again to make another post (as below) and see what happens.

        EDIT –

Same thing happening again – Obviously some sort of problem with the site still existing.

I will contact Adam directly and advise him of the situation.

        Regards,

        Mike.

Sorry for delay. I’m checking some things. I’m considering moving away from phpbb towards something with automatic updates like WordPress but the conversion process is tricky. Doing it programmatically is very tricky and conversion software / companies costs money, and I fund the site out of my own pocket.

          Hi Adam,

I’m sure there’s quite a few of us who would really miss the site and appreciate your work in keeping it going, who would also be willing to make a donation.

          cheers

          Gary

Thanks, Gary. Much appreciated. The hosting cost is really quite small, although it impacts my time when such things happen. CloudFlare seems to be working well now. The number of “guests” (it was a DDOS attack without any obvious sophistication) has reduced to manageable levels from 1000s, and 100s of page requests per second. They also offer an “under attack” mode which keeps the site up but can cause some issues for regular users. Hopefully, they’ve moved onto easier targets now.
