      Hiya all, I’m wondering if this is a yellow morel? Found on a chalky-soiled hill near beech trees in the south east of England. No smell. Stalk appeared hollow and the inside of the body seemed right for Morchella esculenta. Thanks in advance ☺️

        Hi,

        Yes, that’s fine for Morchella esculenta.

        I’m not sure where “Yellow Morel” would be the common name, but for quite a few years in the UK, Morchella esculenta was known as the “Common Morel”.

        However, its current “accepted” (British Mycological Society) English/Common name is simply “Morel”.

        Habitat of chalky soil with deciduous trees is quite typical for the species.

          I quite agree, there’s not much yellow about it. It’s my first morel so chuffed to have finally found one.
