Possible Phaeographis dendritica VC38

This looks like it could be Phaeographis dendritica found on two seperate Aspen trees trunks (many small patches on each) located adjacent to a small stream. Everything short of a microscope examination seems to match the description except for the K+ve reaction which stays yellow not turning slowly red (even after 5 mins). The K was fresh and tested on a sample of P. argena with the correct Yellow-Red reaction.

A forum opinion would be appreciated as if it is Phaeographis dendritica then it would be the first record for VC38 Warwickshire.

That has rather blunt ends to the lirellae and lacks a thaline margin, so is not Phaeographis dendritica. P. dendritica typically has pointed ends to the lirellae and a little fold of thallus along the edge of the lirellea ~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/phaeographis-dendritica” class=”bbcode_url”>~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/phaeographis-dendritica. It looks like a well developed Arthonia radiata. Neil – Many thanks – sorry got a bit carried away by the branching on that one – that explains why there was quite a few patches on each tree and I also need to trust the spot test reaction.

Just for info. Phaeographis dendritica has been found recently (24.10.24, record only just sent in) at Ryton in Warwickshire, on oak in woodland.
