Pure guess, as mine isn’t an Apex make, but if a centred object is seen to significantly move to a different position, (i.e. somewhere else out of centre, across the field of view) when a different magnification of object lens is moved into position, it sounds like the lens turret itself has somehow become slightly “loose” (for want of a better word).
Obviously, the turret should only rotate, with good precision and no sideways movement at all, around its centre point, to keep all the object lenses aligned with respect to each other.
If there is any play at all in the turret it would likely give the sort of problem you mention. – Maybe worth a look to see if any adjustment screws etc. might just need tightening?
Can’t suggest anything for the problem with fine focus, short of getting the tools out and carefully disassembling things to the extent where you can see what’s going on.
Or – maybe before doing that – I understand that Apex is a subsidiary of Brunel Microscopes.
I’ve had dealings with, and made purchases from Brunel several times, and have always found them to be extremely good with customer service.
Perhaps if you contact them, they might be able to suggest what the problem might be, based on your particular model – or they might offer a repair service for your scope?
