A Lichenodiplis fallaciosa query – according to the comment on the BLS map “name correct but incorrectly reported from GB&I. Most British records are Lichenoconium lichenicola”. The Fungi of Britain and Ireland website is inaccessible again but according to the AFL website Lichenodiplis fallaciosa is lichenicolous on Orcularia insperata and (outside Europe) Buellia multispora,

June 2, 2025 at 8:08 pm #46605Thanks for replying Neil – but I thought Lichenoconium lichenicola had simple conidia and it was Lichenodiplis lichenicola (on Rinodina sophodes) which had light-brown 1-septate conidia? https://www.dorsetnature.co.uk/pages-lichen/lch-594.html I did email Brian a fortnight ago but haven’t had a reply.

In Paul Diederich’s forthcoming revision of Muellerella/Lichenodplis/Laeviomyces this species will be given a new name. Paul has sent me a draft revision of this group of fungi on Arthoniales and Buellia s. lat. and Rinodina s. lat., but has asked me not to pass it on – I should honour that wish. However, please contact Paul Diederich directly re your Dorset find (he is aware of your Cork find) so he can put a dot on his map.

PS There will be a large number of changes when Paul’s coelomycete volume is produced, including many new species/interpretations/combinations – these are best done in one go!
