      Hello. My name is Carolyn and I live in North Devon. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this query.

      This year I had special vegetable topsoil delivered for a new raised bed. I have been pleased with my harvest of fruit and veg but recently a rash of small orange/brown fungi have appeared. I attach photos that I took yesterday, Saturday August 7th 2021 . I picked 2 specimens , one slightly more advanced than the other, so you can see the underside and stem. On both there appears to be a narrow band around the stem. On one photo you can see how small they are by the side of a garden hand fork. I would appreciate identification and also whether I should do anything about them or just leave them. Thank you.

        Looks like a Pholiotina species. I find them quite frequently in compost in outdoor flower pots. They are just rotting decayed material in the soil/compost and pose no threat to your fruit and veg. Hope that helps…
