Hi all. I would appreciate any opinion on this relatively large, yellow waxcap found in Hampshire. The cap size was 6cm diameter, pale or lemon yellow. Ever so slightly tacky to touch. Gills were pale yellow (I removed one to examine away from reflection of remainder of waxcap), deep, serated and looked to be free of stipe. Stipe 6cm long, compressed with longitudinal groove and the same colour as the cap. Stipe was very fibrous and dry and when I broke it, it had pale yellow flesh. Spores white but I noted they didnt darken when Melzers added to slide. Spores measured 6.3-8.5 x 4.2-6.3. Q ratio – 1.2-1.6
The cap size led me to four potential options, but I ruled out H. Quieta due to the gills being paler than the cap, and H. Acutoconica due to spore size and shape, leaving me with H. chlorophana or H. citrinovirens.
My issues relate to the cap shape among other factors – the waxcap was found alone and I wondered if it was more conical without having split. I could list a variety of factors that leads me one way or the other and hoped someone would offer a more substantial opinion. Im afraid I have no sense of smell so can’t provide help there
