      I photographed this fungus on Brean Down, Somerset on 19th October. Several Cuphophyllus virgineus and Chlorophyllum rhacodes were also present in the short grassland areas. The cap of this fungus is about 4 cms diameter. It is rather fibrous/scaly and I assume is a Fibrecap. The stipe is around 7cms and very similar in texture and colour, possibly slightly paler as shown in the photographs. At present I would guess it is an Inocybe species but would appreciate your more informed views, albeit based on my limited information.

        Inocybe is wrong for a grassland habitat as it is strictly mycorrhizal with trees. Unless there are trees close by,

        I would be thinking Entoloma. A spore print would narrow it.

          Thanks Adam. There were a few very stunted trees but none in the close vicinity, so it looks like you’re correct with Entoloma. I did consider that species but discounted it as the apparent “possibles” (to my uninformed eye) all had striate margins to the cap. Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
