An old photograph (2013) from Co. Limerick, Ireland – is this Enterographa elaborata intermingled with Enterographa hutchinsiae and Pyrenula macrospora on Ash by a path in fairly shaded woodland?

The lirellae are not quite eloborate enough (should be longer with more sharp angles) to identify with confidence that this is Enterographa elaborata, although they are at the outer edge of how long Enterographa hutchinsiae lirellae can get. I can see, however, that the partly paler thalli have very similar lirellae to the darker matterial and that the pale thalli are not uniformly coloured. I think this is probably just Enterographa hutchinsiae, with some of the thalli damaged giving the paller patches. On the other hand I would have tested with Pd in the field to check if I saw this matterial, just to be sure that it was not Enterographa elaborata.

Shame, we could do with modern records from the south of Ireland for Enterographa elaborata.

      Happy New Year

Thanks for replying Neil I was really hopeful for a while!

Photo taken on a family walk so no specimen collected, and unfortunately I’ve no Pd but if I’m back there sometime I’ll see if I can find more
