      My first attempt at a Collema so thought it best to check with members for confirmation or correction. There are rather more species than I realised.

      In an almost vertical channel in a granite outcrop. It was showing very dark and in shade so I have lightened the second image slightly.

        It is likely to be Collema flaccidum, but to confirm, you should see the young globose isidia, visible in your pictures, becoming flattened and squamule like as they age, see http://fungi.myspecies.info/taxonomy/term/4623/media” class=”bbcode_url”>http://fungi.myspecies.info/taxonomy/term/4623/media. The alternative would be Collema subflaccidum, where the isidia remain globose, although this is a less likely species on a wet rock habitat.

          Thanks for that Neil.

          Now had another thorough look and the isidia are entirely globose on all ages of the thallus. I used Dobson initially for reference and he notes the habitat as ‘trees’ for C. subflaccidum, so I dismissed it. However, Smith et al. note “… more rarely on siliceous rock; …”

          Given an almost complete lack of trees here, …
