Cladonia pyxidata?

Is this Cladonia pyxidata? Growing on the top of an ironstone (calcareous I think) headstone in a Warwickshire churchyard. Podetia have corticate granules (I think) on the stems and inside the cups. Basal squamules are about 1 mm wide, mostly undivided, white beneath, and don’t have soredia. K-.

All other similar Cladonia taxa with big coticate granules and no red apothecia, have large basal squamules (Cladonia pocillum ~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-pocillum” class=”bbcode_url”>~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-pocillum, Cladonia humilis schizidiate form, Cladonia cyathomorpha ~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-cyathomorpha” class=”bbcode_url”>~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-cyathomorpha & Cladonia monomorpha ~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-monomorpha” class=”bbcode_url”>~~https://britishlichensociety.org.uk/resources/species-accounts/cladonia-monomorpha).

The habitat, moss on base rich rock, is typical as well, the other is moss on base rich bark. On more acid substrates a lot of what is called Cladonia pyxidata is Cladonia cyathomorpha, on calcearious soil Cladonia pocillum and on midly base enriched soil Cladonia humilis schizidiate form.

Is it OK to use some of your pictures on the BLS website?

Thanks, Neil, that’s brilliant. I first heard the name Cladonia pyxidata on a botany field course about forty years ago, but this is the first time I’ve felt almost-confident I’d found it. Yes, very happy for the photos to be used. It was very helpful being able to refer to the new Cladonia pages on the BLS site.
