Growing on Fraxinus in a rather old forest near the coast in eastern Jutland, Denmark. I think most characters point to Catinaria atropurpurea, but I detect a distinct biatora-like structure in the tholus (K/I) and it seems that some spores have a somewhat warted perispore, in some it is absent and in some there appears to be a double wall. There appears to be no K+ intensifying pigment in the apothecial sections. I have stained a section with the ink/acetic acid method and the paraphyses appear to be mostly unbranched. Even when focusing in and out I could not find signs of anastomosis. I found a pycnidium immersed in the thallus when sectioning an apothecium which does not fit well with the description in LGBI2, but perhaps it is just overlooked? The thallus was wide-spreading and appeared dark green in the field. The apothecia on my collected material are all at or below 0.5 mm in diameter. I have spent some time on this without reaching a definite conclusion, hopefully it will make sense to one of you from the attached photos.
