During collecting trip on 22/10/22 to Grass Wood, Grassington, North Yorks, several collections of Basidiodendron species made, including B. eyrei and B. caesiocinereum. The third collection superficially resembling B. caesiocinereum but having slightly larger, finely spined spores. Details of collection,
Basidiome: resupinate, ceraceous, very thin, grey.
Hymenophore: reticulate to smooth
Hyphal structure: monomitic, clamped, to 2.5 wide.
Basidia: ovoid, longitudinally septate, 13-18 X 9-11, some basidia with oblique septa. Sterigmata, only 2 spored seen, to 8 long.
Spores: compressed-subglobose / globose, 6-8.5(9) X 6-8.5, with short <0.5 mic acute spines.
Cystidia: gloeocystidia with pale yellow content in KOH, 20-38 X 4-7, tubular, irregular, tapering.
Keying using recent paper, Spirin V…et al. (2021). “Studies in the Basidiodendron caesiocinereum complex (Auriculariales, Basidiomycota). Mycol. Progress 20, this collection matches well to Basidiodendron groningae.
