      SW Ireland 2009 – is this Abrothallus lobariae (the Phoma lobariae anamorph) on Lobaria pulmonaria?

      What appeared to be hyaline +/- globose conidia were abundant and c7x5 µm in size.

        Not sure about this one. The conidia of Abrothallus lobariae were described as 3-4 x 2.5-3 µm, so rather smaller than your measurements. Pycnidia of the host are described as 5 x 1 µm and bacilliform, so that doesn’t fit either. We need better microscopy here, especially looking at structure of the conidiomata and conidiogenous cells. If there is plenty of material I could take a look if you like, but it’s likely to remain a mystery.

          Thanks Paul, I hadn’t managed to find conidia measurements when I posted this but yes, mine seem much too big! There was some left with what appeared to be pycnidia in varying degrees of development so I’ll get it in the post to you.
