    Hi Mal,

From description and images this does look like Exidiopsis calcea. I have two collections of E. calcea, both with spores to 18-20 long, width 5-7.5. Oil drops also noted in both collections. In several seperate collections of E.effusa, spores never reaching these dimensions. Cystidiols can be present, 23-75 X 2-10, subcylindrical, subclavate or fusiform(from Resupinate of Hampshire). There is a key to British species by Peter Roberts in Mycological Research 97 (4).

    Hi Steve,

Looking at your images and measurements, Resinicium furfuraceum looks a good fit, with halocystidia, lack of astrocystidia, spore size and clamps. Basidia for R. furfuraceum much smaller than R. bicolor, at 10-12, according to Fungi Europaei 12, so may not be obvious.

Without recourse to microscopy difficult to ID with any certainty. Initial impressions are of one of the Stereum species. The trunk appears to be that of a conifer from image posted. If so Stereum sanguinolentum most obvious candidate. When damaged/scratched Stereum sanguinolentum will exude red juice if in hydrated state.
