    Thanks Mark, wasn’t on my radar at all! The LGBI3 key relies on presence of apothecia for the couplets before this species is arrived at, so any attempt at keying would have had to involve a guessing game. But having read the description that does look right. A county / vice county first I believe. Rob

    Thanks Mark, yes that looks right. Of course I was thrown by the lack of C+ red reaction, which I still can’t detect on my sample, but the binary fission looks convincing, I think.

    That looks right, I did suspect a non-lichenised fungus but I find it hard to know where to start looking if it’s not a lichen! Thanks Neil.

    Hi Neil,

    there is a cortex of sorts (see photo), but it doesn’t look especially like the giraffe skin of C. rangiformis. What do you think?
