Huge image files

Post by adampembs »

I've given up! I've allowed users the ability to add huge image files of up to 4,000 x 4,000 pixels. This is entirely excessive for websites, but phone makers set this as default and users are too imcompetent in technology to learn how to change the default or to resize images. Also, makers of this forum software, despite people asking since it was developed, have not added a way for the server to resize images.
My only recourse is to manually prune excessive images on a regular basis. If you want your images to remain on the website for posterity, please ensure they are small in file size (I mean in terms of kilobytes not megabytes.) Any large files will be deleted every few months.
If you want to learn how to resize your images, Lancashire Lad posted a guide here. An image can be 1920 x 1440px (which is fine to see fungi for ID as per attached) and easily be under 1MB.
