Nigel Stringer

Very sad news today that Nigel Stringer has died.
The King of Rusts!
A great loss .
A very good mycologist and a funny man.
On seeing his car number plate one might say a rust obsessive but there's nothing wrong with that.
Condolences to his family.

My friends in Wales have just produced a new book/download -a Handlist of Microfungal parasites on vascular plants.

Well worth a look

Re: Fungus Of The Day (One identified fungus only please, with species name in attachment comment and in post)

An alien fungus from Madagascar? Moving north.
Very common down here in the South West.
Should we be concerned ? Might it be out competing other native fungi.?
Would we think differently if it wasn't orange and pretty?

Just a few thoughts.

Re: growing on a stick

Yes I agree .
Either a Daldinia or Hypoxylon spp.
it is black inside
I can't tell the tree species from the bare stick.
thanks

I'm recommending Cameron's talk- Black things on sticks

It's free and I think it will be good.

Sorry they're not particularly good photos but I found this Terana caerulea ,Cobalt crust growing on an old bamboo cane in my garden when tidying up.
