A rare occasion when I got a half decent image with my phone.

Re: Corticoid
Welcome to UK Fungi
It looks like one of the Ganoderma species. G. australe or G. applanatum.
In future, please start a new topic for a fungus ID.

Corticoid
Continuing to go out of my comfot zone!
Looking through my FTE, I'm getting to the meruloid section (as pores are lacking)
Very small inamyloid spores 4.6 - 5 x 1.9 - 2.6μm.
Clavate cystidia. Perhaps Phlebia rufa? The colour is more pink after a couple of days
Not sure of wood type but growing in ...

Mix of lichens and Happy New Year
On New Year's Eve, I found this lovely mixture of lichens on a branch. I know the photo is not the best but if anyone is brave enough to put names to any of them, that would be great!
Happy new year, lichenologists!

Rust on fern
Found today on a fern. If anyone can identify the fern, I'll probably have an ID
My guess would be Dryopteris dilatata and therefore Milesina kriegeriana

Re: Nigel Stringer
I met Nigel a number of times. He was a regular attender at the Pembrokeshire forays and the joke was he never left the car park, he found so many tiny fungi. I attended his excellent workshop on rusts at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. This is a sad loss. Out of fondness for his memory, I ...

Re: Strange fungus growing in our tea room
MIke is right, of course. Just to add that the only spores to worry about are of human disease causing fungi (not this species) or some Aspergillus (which affect some susceptible people, not all) Any spores in the lings will eventually break down or be removed by the body.

There is some purple left in the stem. I think L.saeva is a good contender.

Re: Brand new
Welcome to UK Fungi.
Google lens and other apps are not very good at getting IDs.
I would recommend a book. There is a list here.

Re: Pholiota with conspicuous veil tufts
Hi,
Unfortunately, Pholiota squarrosoides isn't (yet?) recorded in the UK
It's from Malta.
According to FTE, P.squarroides is increasing found towards the east of Europe. It is supposed to smell of bread yeast and is greasier than P. squarrosa. Of course, Malta is on the edge of what we ...

Re: Fungus Of The Day (One identified fungus only please, with species name in attachment comment and in post)
My view is that we need to do more to limit the spread of the worst pathogens, Ash Dieback, Dutch Elm disease etc (too late for the them) but growing more plants and timber in the UK, better certification and better biological controls in general (quarantine etc) Some improvements have been made ...
