Re: Young Hawthorn leaf damage

To me, the feeding damage looks moth like. Notice the areas where only one surface of the leaf has been eaten leaving brown "windows". These are the young caterpillars which then progress to eating the whole leaf as they mature. I would guess that if you went out with a torch between now and ...

Lancashire Lad wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:41 am Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, but these definitely aren't any form of Macrotyphula fistulosa. - (M.fistulosa is a basidiomycete, and these are ascomycete).

The suggestion was prior to you saying it was an asco. Apologies for the distraction.

Re: Marasmiellus candidans?

Isn't this Oudemansiella mucida? The last picture appears to show the viscid cap, distant gills, stem ring and beech woodland habitat all seem to fit.

Re: Plants that can kill

I know this is resurrecting a very old thread but I had to laugh at a headline which appeared about a fortnight ago:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-66136682

As far as I am aware, nobody has ever been killed by brushing past Hemlock. The story does say "fatal if ingested" but buries ...

Re: My journey with Ingoldian fungi

The foam has been collected and fixed. A slightly precarious balancing act as the water level had dropped significantly. No photograph as I wouldn't have thought anybody would want to see a sample tube.

Next step: microscope.

My journey with Ingoldian fungi

This could be a very short thread, but I thought I would document it in real time allowing the advice of members to influence the next steps as necessary.

Whilst out walking the dog this morning, I heard the distinctive bubbling sound of the babbling brook. I am not sure what the obstruction is. I ...

If anybody is interested, Puffin is edible, but tastes awful. I would liken it to well-salted leather watch straps.

I have not seen Paxillus growing on timber as this appears to be. Am I mistaken or might this be something like Tapinella?
