A couple of years ago I posted what I thought was Tuberculina sbrozzii – I wasn’t so I’m trying again! on Vinca majoThanks for looking

Sorry Mark – only just spotted this

Looks fine for T. sbrozzii – I’m always rather amazed at the narrow host range of this hyperparasite, only attacking a rust with a very specific, non-native host (i.e. only on Vinca major). It was originally (1899) described from a collection near Rimini in Italy where the plant is native.

    Cheers

    Chris

    PS – I’ll give the iNaturalist record a thumbs-up when I get round to it . . .

    Thanks Chris.

I also find it peculiar that V major is affected by P vincae and V minor by P cribata but both fungi are affected by T srbozzii.

    Thanks for looking

We’re talking about genetically very close relationships that have evolved over time – perhaps only a DNA base pair separation to start with . . .
