EDITED 16/05/15– THREAD RE-TITLED MORE APPROPRIATELY TO ASSIST WITH FUTURE SEARCHES (Refer To Post 3 Below). HI all,
I found this yesterday, on live Dandelion leaves.
Presumably a stage of
Puccinia variabilis, P.hieraciivar hieracii, or P.dioicae– but with my limited experience I’m not making any headway as to which stage of which species it might be. 😳 Any help or suggestions as to exactly what I’ve got here would be greatly appreciated.

June 16, 2015 at 6:26 pm #34965Hi Mike I can see why you might be confused. This doesn’t really look like a rust (no dry spores of any of the possible stages bursting out). Its a chytrid
Synchytrium taraxaci. See:

Brilliant! Thanks a lot Chris.I knew there had to be a logical answer, and this solves another puzzle that I had, as I found something on Dandelion last week in the same general area, which I now know was obviously a slightly less well developed outbreak of the same species.
Best regards,I will rename the thread to “Synchytrium taraxaci– A Chytrid on Dandelion” as it will then be better placed to allow for future searches to find your excellent colour plate and link. Mike.
