<p style=”text-align: center;”>Hi all, would anyone be able to confirm this lichen as Phyllopsora rosei, found in Twiselton Glen, Ingleton, North Yorkshire. Chemical tests appear negative and KUV is too. Growing on slightly leached acid oak bark above gorge.
It appears to have the slightly mealy texture and has squamules as well granules which I’ve seen in this species in the south west and the Lake District. It would be good to get this confirmed given this is quite a range jump into Yorkshire.
      Many thanks,</p>

Have you tried Pd, the lack of a Pd reaction is concerning, this is normally strong, also I can not quite fully resolve the pictures; they look a bit sorediate, which would be wrong too. Can you do less close in photos?

Hi Neil, I don’t have any Pd so can’t test that. Heres a pciture that my friend took when i collected the sample. It’s also worth noting that green crust below is Miacrea xanthonica with a UV+ deep orange and persistent C+ orange test.

That was fast! Hum, lacks the fuzyness I would expect. I will sleep on it! The usual probem look a bit like is Megalaria pulverea, this always gives a K/UV(dry)+ bright yellow spot test, so worth trying that test. Right habitat and much more mobile.

You can get Pd from John Skinner via the BLS and sodium sulphite to stabilise a mix with vodka from the internet.

Cheers, I’ll try get some. I’ve just done another KUV test with much more K and it looks to be KUV+ yellow. Megalaria pulverea looks like a better fit then!

                Many thanks,
