A recent find in a shrubbery near Scarborough has prompted me to remind people to look out for this intriguing fungus. It would be great to add this to more sites. I would encourage anyone who spots Griselinia in local parks and gardens to keep an eye out.

This was the richest collection I have had to date; there were abundant tiny fruit-bodies on leaves attached to a dead twig still in the Griselinia bush – arrowed. The scale bar is 1mm. The spore image is better than the one in my OP. Strange to think this fungus is in the same family as the gilled fungi Armillaria, Flammulina, Strobilurus and Xerula, and the corticioid Cylindrobasidium: https://www.outerhebridesfungi.co.uk/species.php?id=57” class=”bbcode_url”>https://www.outerhebridesfungi.co.uk/species.php?id=57

    Hi!

My name is Henry and I live in Guernsey, Channel Islands. I am brand new to this forum and was pointed towards this thread when asking for an ID of a fungus I found on an old Griselinia leaf in my garden. Since finding this in my garden I have also found it at a near by park! Just thought I’d post in here to say that it is also present here on Guernsey. Also is it right to think this is only one species just from habitus or should I take a look at the spores?

Hello Henry – and welcome to the forum!

And apologies for my not having spotted this post sooner. No need to check spores, although it is worth looking at under the microscope as it has rather impressive cystidia. On this host and looking like that (nice photo – where you can actually see the cystidia) there can be no mistaking it.

I’ll produce a new map with a dot for Guernsey – whereabouts on the island are you? – I see there are 4 possible 10km squares: WV27, WV28, WV37 & WV38. Your finds provide a nice link between the recent finds in S England and N France . . .

    Best wishes

    Chris
