Hi everyone.
I came across a very strange Ascomycete which when I saw it first I thought it was a myxomycete (Slime mould) but under the micro it is a synnematous fungus with dense and tightly packed Pennicillium-like conidiaphores giving rise to a mass of pink conidiaspores which remain clustered as a head. On placing this in water (or when rain comes) the spores seems to become repellent and are released (you can see them spreading away from the head in water). Spores narrowly elliptic, with obtuse ends, sometimes slightly curved, without a septum, but with two distinct oil bodies at both ends.
It was growing from cracks in bark of a fallen branch of Ailanthus altissima in a shaded and moist ground
