I found this nice group of Cudoniella acicularis (hope I’m correct).

Examining a sample showed up some black dots which turned out to be very spore-like in appearance – about 12 microns diameter.

Assuming they are natural contaminants, does anyone have any suggestion what they might be from?

    regards, Alan

    Hello,

Scleroderma looks also very similar, but judging from the Cudoniella spores around your strange spores are quite big and should have a diam. up to 15 µm or so. That would be too big for Scleroderma, as far as I know. But you give a spore size of 12 µm, what would be within the range of Scleroderma, so this would be another option, may be an even better one.

    best regards,

    Andreas

    thanks again, Andreas

earlier in the season there are plenty of Scleroderma in the vicinity, so that could well be the answer

    regards, Alan
