As you will all have I have seen this fungi quite often as large as a dinner plate and big enough to sit on, but I had never seen them just as they started to grow, for a moment I wondered what on earth it was, then realised it was the saddle but what a lovely fungi it is right from the start. found today locally, got my feet wet taking the photo but it was worth it. Can anyone tell me what those drops of fluid are, it was growing under a tree could it be drops off the tree or does it exude some fluid or something?

Got your feet wet is a clue I think Joan – a damp area then – I suspect these are dewdrops or rainfall from leaves above.

They are such fabulous things to watch, grow and develop to full size – and some great photography, as ever!

    Cheers

Great picture Gracie! Just remember that it’s “a fungus” or “some fungi” – fungus is singular ie for one species and fungi is plural, more than one species :)
