Found on a track in a mixed deciduous woodland in NW leicestershire in the last few days.

Looking through Phillips I found Armillaria Cepistipes which seemed the right shape but then further ferreting threw up Armillaria gallica (Bulbous honey fungus) with the yellow markings on the stem as a closer possibility.

Armillaria mellea would seem more likely but that lacks the bulbous base to the stem and yellow markings on the stem.

    What are your opinions ?

Looks good for it but they are a bit immature, hence the shape.

Jassy Drakulic from the RHS comments that these do look like young A. gallica. She says that a good test is to look in the surrounding soil for rhizomorphs. This species produces copious black rhizomorphs.
