Couldn’t see anything that looked fungal under the scope. What are these, and are they worth incubating?

        Hi Adam,

What about (perhaps early stage) of Trochila ilicina, or Phacidiostroma multivalve?

As the individual spots look quite large with respect to the leaves, on macroscopic characteristics alone, I’d be leaning more towards P.multivalve. – (T.ilicina being generally up to 1mm across, and P.multivalve being up to 2mm across).

There are several other things that can be found on dead Holly leaves – Disco’s, Asco’s, Hyphomycetes, Coleomycetes – so to really get anywhere with the ID, you’d need to find whatever type of spores/conidia are lurking in there. :D

        Regards,

        Mike.

Isn’t this an ID request rather than an ascomycete post :? ;)

I agree with Mike – early Phacidiostroma multivalve. No point cultivating, just visit the site on another occasion; decent accumulations of dead holly leaves are seldom (never?) without it.
