Hello all During our many Longshaw surveys this autumn I found lots of Ascobolus immerses with the usual Pilobolus and Cheilymenia species on Cow dung. It was an ideal subject for the Canon MP-E 65mm lens in the studio.
Looking forward to next spring when I hope to have more time on the site

Best Wishes – John
December 14, 2015 at 1:48 am #37649Hi John photo’s #5 and #6 are excellent images of
Ascobolus immersus– #5 showing the prominent spores in the relatively few-asci-ed apothecia, with their large spores. But #3 and #4 clearly show a different species – A. furfuraceusperhaps? (would need to see spores etc. to be sure). cheers

Just to make things clear, image 3 shows Ascobolus immersus (the smaller greenish barrel shaped fungus) and image 5 is the same area 3 days after. Perhaps you have not seen this stage Chris.
Thanks to all for the kind comments too. They are always appreciated
