Hi,
Today Peter Bisset, Ken Sandall and myself found what we think could possibly be Hypotrachyna lividescens on Iping Common, Sussex. Photos below hopefully show its features. The Oak was quite young and the lichen was on a low branch.
It had a very light grey-coloured thallus. The pale grey/green soredia were around the apices and just below as well as laminal. Its C reaction on the soralia was quite distinctive starting out red but soon changing to be more orange. The cortex was K yellow. The underside was dark with a chestnut edge and the rhizines appeared to be dichotomously branched, although it’s tricky to see on the photo below.
Is it likely to be Hypotrachyna lividescens or something else?
Thanks,
Sylvia
