      SW Ireland (2009 specimen), small perithecia on Solenopsora holophaea lobes. Spores green-brown, (1-)3 septate, 7-10(-11) x c3-3.5 µm. (Though I initially thought they were conidia, not spores)

      Thanks to Wolfgang von Brackel for the account of lichenicolous fungi associated with Solenopsora species by Darmostuk et al. (2022) this appears to be Muellerella triseptata.

      Does anyone know what the GB&I distribution is as no BLS map is provided?

        Hi Jenny

        After digging around a bit (there are no records in the BLS database) I found a NRI entry for Muellerella triseptata in the Bulletin 127: 92 (Winter 2020). It was contributed by Vince G – he seemed to have got bored during a visit to Center Parcs, maybe?

        His collection was on the type host Buellia griseovirens and was described as having hairy perithecia, and should probably be addressed as Capronia triseptata as Etayo 1996 indicated.

        Assuming your collection doesn’t have hairs/setae, you presumably have instead Muellerella solenopsorae Brien et al. 2022 – if you search for the paper title “Muellerella solenopsorae Brien, Cl. Roux et Monnat sp. nov., champignon lichénicole (Ascomycota) sur Solenopsora holophaea” you can download it from ResearchGate. There is some controversy over the extent of host specificity for Muellerella species, but for now this will be the best name to use. As far as I’m aware it’s new to GBI, and you will probably want to pester Brian about it….
