Hyperphyscia lucida?

      I came across a photograph from 2009 labelled H. adglutinata but wondering if it’s Hyperphyscia lucida instead?

      No specimen so I can’t measure the lobe width etc but the the lobes ends are wide, some are turned up and the soralia is pustular becoming confluent.

        Not entirely sure from the picture (not looked at Hyperphyscia lucida when wet!) but seems more liklely than H. adglutinata, but this is not a definate det.

          Thanks for your reply Neil – but are there any features I could provide a larger image of that might enable a more definite determination?

            Hi Jenny,

            I agree with Neil that the first two photos are not H. lucida, since the soralia are too neatly rounded. I think it could even be a wet Phaeophyscia orbicularis, there seems to be some space between the lobes and the bark (not glued upon), and I can spot some tiny rhizines? I am not sure about the third photo.

              Yes Phaeophyscia orbicularis is also a strong possibility, I would agree it is a better match than Hyperphyscia lucida now it is suggested, and definitely better than H. adglutinata, but difficult to be definitive.

                Thank you Arno and Neil – and yes, Phaeophyscia orbicularis seems much more likely!
